Audit Bureau Launches Specialized Training Program to Improve Internal Audit and Control Units in Line with International Standards

The Audit Bureau launched Yesterday  a specialized training program entitled "Improving Internal Audit and Control Units According to International Standards and Best Practices," in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Sector Development. The program aims to enhance the efficiency of internal audit and control units and empower their personnel to play a key role in the public sector.

The program focuses on improving the skills of audit staff in areas such as governance assessment, risk management, auditing digital systems and information environments, preparing and analyzing audit reports, and adhering to international internal auditing standards. It also supports the integrity system and strengthens anti-corruption efforts.

During the opening of the training program, Minister of State for Public Sector Development, Dr. Khair Abu Saalik, emphasized that internal audit is no longer merely a tool to detect violations. Rather, it has become a fundamental element in building trust, promoting integrity, and improving institutional performance quality. H.E noted that the government is working on developing a national guide for the governance of internal audit procedures, taking into account digital transformation and modern audit requirements.

For his part, President of the Audit Bureau, Dr. Radhi Al Hamadeen, stated that this program is part of a comprehensive development plan that began last year with the assessment of internal audit units within entities subject to the Bureau's oversight. It is now transitioning to the training phase and capacity building in preparation for implementing improvement plans based on evaluation and follow-up. H.E explained that the program aims to train more than 500 employees from various entities under the Bureau's oversight, including government entities, state-owned companies, public universities, and municipalities, and will continue for a duration of eight weeks.

Held at the Institute of Public Administration, this program represents an institutional model of collaboration between the Audit Bureau and the Ministry of Public Sector Development to modernize the public sector work system, including internal audit and control units, and to enhance their readiness. The program embodies the commitment to embedding the principles of good governance, strengthening transparency and institutional compliance, and ensuring efficiency in managing public resources. It also contributes effectively to reinforcing the auditing function, particularly regarding the audit of operational decisions, thereby supporting professional and sound decision-making. This, in turn, positively reflects on the level of institutional performance and the quality of public services, enhancing citizens’ trust in state institutions and serving the public interest.
